Yes, I am going to be at the Polyface farm event this June 25 & 26 (Friday & Saturday) with the Peak Prosperity tribe.  So for anyone who was maybe, kinda, sorta  thinking of coming to the Polyface/Salatin event, please join me! (Evie is uncertain depending on the timing and outcome of a medical procedure). Further, I am personally inviting anybody who wants to meet me to join me for a Meet and Greet with the tribe following the end of day’s itinerary Saturday afternoon at the farm. Local craft brews, wine and light snacks will be provided, and of course, plenty of great conversation.  So be sure your travel plans leave you some space on Saturday to attend this impromptu event. In order to decide if your will continue to place your trust in this site going forward, you deserve the truth and sufficient context, so here it is.

Adam and I were approached in 2019 by potential partners (a.k.a. ‘the investors’) at a time when we were both working the same long hours but watching our business slowly dwindle.  In the prior few years we watched many of our peers and on-line colleagues burn out and drop away as the endless financial repression (i.e. interest rates down, gold down, stocks up, reality nowhere to be found) continued to grind on and on and on.

The good news was at least we were still afloat!  But we felt in need of a path that would allow us to navigate and survive a world that was increasingly more interested in telling itself fairy tales than confronting its many predicaments. 

So we listened and wrestled with the deal before us.  The intentions were good.  They had powerful back-office and marketing functions and a large database of potential new minds to engage, and we had content. 

I wanted to reach more people and Adam needed help managing the day-to-day aspects of our business.  It seemed that a strategic partnership could offer both of us what we wanted. 

All parties signed a term sheet on December 26th, 2019.   There was much rejoicing.

In 2008 I created The Crash Course.  If you haven’t seen it, well, you really should.  It’s both very outdated and still spot on.

In it I made the case that by looking through a resource lens we could come to this conclusion:  The next twenty years are going to be completely unlike the past twenty years.

There are lots of ways to look at the world – geopolitically, spiritually, ecologically – but I’ve found that resources have both power predictive and explanatory powers.

Of course, how it actually turns out is not up to me.  It’s up to us.

Where we need unity to accomplish some really huge, if not heroic, things over the coming years and decades, we’re as fractured as we’ve every been culturally and politically.  That there are certain parties actively driving wedges and seeking disunity bothers me greatly.  I believe history will once again be very unkind in how it remembers such people, but that’s another story for another day.

We’re entering a period of volatility and uncertainty.

Like myself and my fiancée Evie, many have come to the (proper) conclusion that the best way to hedge their bets is to build up their homestead, and make it more resilient.

We’ve really thrown ourselves at this project this year and it’s been both challenging and rewarding.

Make no mistake.  You really should be thinking about growing your own food and building your soil, too.
