Sometimes the actions of The Powers That Be are so blatant as to be laughable.  I actually laughed out loud this morning when I read this:

Payment in gold bullion banned under new law to combat tax evasion

Aug 7, 2017

Companies will no longer be able to pay employees their salaries in gold bullion in the first use of a new law designed to combat “morally repugnant” tax avoidance schemes.

An expert tax avoidance panel has ruled that paying employees in gold is a “contrived” tax avoidance scheme designed to “frustrate the intent of parliament” in cracking down on such practices.

It is the first application of the general anti-abuse rule (GAAR) panel since it was introduced by former chancellor George Osborne in 2013 as part of a package of measures to tackle tax evasion.

Okay…

So the story here is that the UK sets up a special tax evasion panel and its very first recommendation is to prevent companies from paying their employees in…gold?

Well, this must have been a very big problem, right?  Lots and lots of companies compensating their workers with bullion, right?  I mean, when you empanel a high-level commission in 2013 and it's now 2017 (time to show serious progress!) and you've charged it with eliminating tax evasion schemes, the idea here is that you'd certainly want its first ruling to target the biggest offenders.  Or at least something very serious.

Right?

Well, the panel couldn't actually point to any cases involving gold at all.
