It’s Mayday Monday!
Let’s dive in…
Risking It All on Nuclear War
The big news is that WW III lurched one step closer with a huge, coordinated, highly devastating, and stunningly effective attack by Ukraine on Russia’s deep interior airbases.
Up to 20% of Russia’s long-range, nuclear-capable bombers were destroyed in a single coordinated raid.
Naturally, there’s zero chance that this “planned for a year and a half” raid happened without US/NATO knowledge, if not direct involvement.
It has been described as “Russia’s Pearl Harbor moment.” I hesitate to remind the Ukraine-ophiles what that meant ultimately for the Japanese.
We all await Russia’s response(s), but they are sure to come in force after Ukraine. One can only imagine what the hardliners in Russia are now saying…and whether the nuclear options are being more openly discussed.
It bears noting that the video feeds we were shown of the bombers being targeted by the suicide drones mean that Ukraine had live video operators and feeds. How exactly was that pulled off? With Starlink?
While there are the immediate escalations to be concerned about, the larger message was that technology has advanced to the point that the old rules of war no longer apply.
Drone boats with surface-to-air missiles are taking down jets. Drone torpedoes lurk about hunting prey. Drones scour the battlefields for armored targets and take them out with ease.
