Welcome to another Fat Pipe! Let’s get started…
Trump Caves on Houthis
I struggle to see how the U.S. can maintain the illusion that it is a peerless military power that can exert its will across the globe without challenge.
First there was the obvious insufficiency of Western military equipment and technology against Russia’s good old fashioned manufacturing edge and extremely effective electronic countermeasures that included GPS and RF jamming both of which reduced the average IQ of the smart bombs into dummy territory.
Then there was the ill-advised “beat up on the desert tribesmen” Yemen/Houthi campaign which cost a couple of F-18 jets and an undisclosed number of very expensive MQ-9 Reaper drones. And, of yeah, the Houthis didn’t stop lobbing missiles at ships at any point during the US attacks and even lobbed a ballistic missile at Ben Gurion airport in Israel.
Here’s one view:
But, hey, that’s just some Twitter dude. Might be right, might be slanted, might be wrong.
Then the NYTimes, a never-Trumper rag to be sure, ran the article titled “Why Trump suddenly declared victory over the Houthis.” It contained these paragraphs:
Ouch! I guess when your “bullets” cost $1M a pop, it adds up quick! But the subtle message here is simply that cheap and easily made drones and missiles are very expensive to defend against.
Further, if a tiny, small, very poor country like Yemen can cause the US Navy to burn through their munitions, what would happen if the US decided against all reason to attack the much larger, and vastly more well-equipped country of Iran?
