A 2-1 First Circuit Court of Appeals ruling refused to pause a lower court injunction against key parts of Trump’s Executive Order 14399 that tightens mail-in voting. The Department of Justice indicated it may seek emergency Supreme Court relief. The order directs DHS to compile citizen voter lists, USPS to set new mail-ballot standards, and Justice to prioritize investigations of officials issuing ballots to ineligible voters. District Judge Indira Talwani found several provisions exceeded presidential authority.
Geopolitics
President Zelensky stated Ukrainian forces hit a warship and vessels transporting military cargo from Iran in the Caspian Sea. Iranian Telegram channels have threatened ballistic missile retaliation. Atlanta resident Samuel Tunick has been charged with destroying property for entering a duress passcode during a border search, according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Granitt consultancy. His lawyers state he was denied counsel, not read his rights, and targeted due to his association with the Defend the Atlanta Forest movement. An independent WilmerHale review commissioned by the Gates Foundation states that Bill Gates and senior staff met Jeffrey Epstein roughly 30 times between 2011 and 2014 despite internal warnings about Epstein’s 2008 conviction.
