Mish returns this week to discuss the brewing stormclouds in Europe. As nationalist candidates gain popularity, growth slows, refugee challenges persist, and friction with the US builds, the binds between the countries in the Eurozone are weakening quickly:
Meanwhile there's lots of other stuff going on in Europe I'd like to talk about.
Trump has threatened to label Germany and China currency manipulators. He has maintained that claim about China for a long time, but it's relatively new for him to come out harping on Germany. It's pretty clear he's attempting to drive a wedge in the EU. He's backing bilateral negotiations. He has backed the UK over the EU, and he has also come out and said—I need to go back and find the quote—but something to the effect "why is Greece still on the Euro? They're better off without it."
But this thing with Germany, labeling Germany a currency manipulator… In 2015—I wasn’t even aware of this, I just saw this last night — President Obama signed a bill that listed four conditions by which we could name someone a currency manipulator.
