In this week's Off the Cuff podcast, Chris and Charles Hugh Smith discuss:
- The War On Cash
- Why governments are so interested in a cashless society
- Grexit
- Why the EU power structure fears it
- The Bond Bomb
- This one will be for all the marbles
- Too Many Risks
- There's little gain to remaining long in this market
Charles Hugh Smith joins Chris this week to provide additional perspective to his recent excellent piece on the War On Cash. They discuss exactly why governments are so enamored with the concept of a cashless society and how we're getting closer and closer to living under such a regime.
On other fronts, there are some major black swan candidates beginning to emerge quickly. Greece looks like it is not going to reach an agreement with its creditors and may opt for the "Grexit" route out of the Eurzone. Had the EU dealt with Greece years ago, it would have been a small matter. Now, not only are the potential debt defaults much larger, but the threat to the system is much greater. The Troika is understandably now very concerned by the precedent a Greek exit will set for its other insolvent member nations — but at this point, there seems to be little it can do to avoid them.
Chris spends some time talking about the rising yields in the bond market, an area he pays very close attention to.
