The Rhine becomes impassable, electricity spikes to impossible levels, and Russia may be in no mood to help fix any of this by resuming normalized energy flows. In short, Europe is screwed.
Who remembers the 1972 song “The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia” by Vicki Lawrence? Ok, it’s not about power outages, but maybe it’s time for a new song…dedicated to the energy situation in Europe. Or maybe, it’s The Band’s “The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down”….recast as “The Summer They Drove Ole Europe Down.”
Truth be told, it’s more than just power shortfalls. With the Rhine River drying up and inflation rising up, it’s starting to look and feel like wartime rationing or the Great Depression.
