UK hospitals must now place trans-identifying patients by biological sex after the country’s National Health Service reversed 2019 “gender identity” guidance. The shift follows the Supreme Court’s For Women Scotland ruling and the Equality and Human Rights Commission code interpreting the Equality Act 2010: single-sex wards rest on biological sex. Alternatives such as single-occupancy rooms remain available. Nurses previously disciplined for objecting to males in female spaces or “misgendering” have been vindicated. Activist groups call the policy “unsafe,” and the Independent quoted TransActual stating that forcing trans patients into spaces matching sex assigned at birth will never be the most clinically appropriate decision and would push trans people away from accessing care.

Separately, the European Commission will now require Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing at 0 mm (actual pocket/skin contact) rather than 5 mm, effective March 2028. France’s National Frequency Agency data showed 76% of phones exceeded the 2 W/kg limit when touching the body. Phonegate Alert called it a decade-long win, and critics note a long transition. U.S. FCC still permits manufacturer-chosen distances (interim 5 mm, older 10 mm for hotspots). Additionally, a new simulation study found children absorb 1.5–1.9× more whole-body RF below 6 GHz.

Moving to nutrition, randomized trials show extra-virgin olive oil in a Mediterranean diet cuts heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and atrial fibrillation. Benefits concentrate in polyphenols destroyed by refining, heat, light, and age, although two “Extra-Virgin Olive Oil” bottles can differ more than tenfold. Oleocanthal inhibits the same COX enzymes as ibuprofen, and topical oil outperformed Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug gel for knee pain. Fraud and rancidity remain widespread, and genuine early-harvest oil is the delivery vehicle. Cooking stability exceeds most seed oils. Commentators have noted that the oil’s benefits appear strongest when it replaces other fats as part of a Mediterranean eating pattern rather than being consumed as an add-on.

Lastly, an Anglia Ruskin University study of 500 UK adults found greater everyday contact with nature associated with more intuitive eating (responding to internal hunger cues rather than rigid rules). Pathways ran through higher body appreciation and self-compassion. Lead author Viren Swami called it the first evidence that nature exposure can shape eating habits, while noting self-report limits and the need for replication.

US Politics

President Trump announced a Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program paying 1% of recovered funds. Tips go to America.gov/fraud. Conservative YouTuber Nick Shirley, whose Minnesota childcare-fraud videos went viral, received the first $10,000 payout. The program builds on VP Vance’s anti-fraud task force. Website language mentions a $30,000 cap for charges filed.

Speaking of fraud, CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz announced a $1.2 billion deferral of federal Medicaid payments to California—the largest yet—targeting the In-Home Supportive Services program. Combined 2026 withholdings reach ~$2.2 billion. Oz cited 24 % growth in three years (twice the national average), and payments for tasks families often perform unpaid. California disputes the evidence and attributes growth to demand. Deferred funds remain under review; the state would cover any permanent cuts. Minnesota faces similar action. Sen. Alex Padilla warned the action will hurt seniors and people with disabilities, and Newsom’s office has characterized similar withholdings as a politically motivated attack.

On First Amendment Rights, Rep. Thomas Massie became the first House cosponsor of H.R. 10174, the GRANITE Act, which would bar U.S. courts from enforcing foreign censorship judgments, fines, or regulator demands that conflict with the First Amendment and create a private right to seek declaratory relief (no damages). It carves a Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act exception. Sen. Mike Lee introduced a companion. The bill targets extraterritorial orders such as UK Ofcom notices, and it does not stop platforms from complying voluntarily. Ofcom has sought to enhance its powers to apply business disruption measures to platforms that do not comply with the Online Safety Act, including foreign companies.

On Second Amendment rights, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division opened a pattern-or-practice investigation into Pennsauken, N.J., over alleged delays in handgun purchase permits that may violate the Second Amendment. AAG Harmeet Dhillon said the probe will determine whether “unconstitutional delays” exist. A 2024 federal lawsuit claims waits exceeded four months against a 30-day state deadline, and Bruen’s footnote left room for challenges to lengthy shall-issue processing. Similar probes target L.A. County, Philadelphia, and San Jose.

On election integrity, X removed more than 13,000 accounts linked to Russia, China, and Iran that published and amplified content aimed at U.S. political figures ahead of the midterms. The Safety team identified coordinated inauthentic behavior, although no country-by-country or target breakdown was released. The action follows an earlier takedown of ~200,000 suspected Chinese bots. DOJ election-integrity cases announced separately are unrelated.

Energy

Modeling suggests that heating plasma before compressing it could cut the energy needed for ignition—the reverse of conventional order. Ignition (net energy gain) remains rare since Livermore’s 2022 first. The same work warns that even 1 part in 10,000 tungsten contamination can double required pressure, a risk for many tungsten-walled reactors, although lithium coatings may mitigate it. Results are theoretical but highlight both a potential efficiency path and a design pitfall. Some have pointed out that sustainable fusion has been projected as 10-15 years away for 60 years.
