Chinese regulators approved brain-computer interface devices, including one from StairMed Technology that reportedly allowed a patient to control devices by thought. Other firms are developing applications for Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, and depression screening. Concerns have been raised that such technology, developed under China’s regulatory system, could extend beyond medical uses and eventually be used to read a person’s thoughts.
Michael Yon stated that video of flooding at the Nepal-Tibet border showed anomalies such as birds freezing mid-flight and suggested the footage may have been altered as part of an information operation. The incident was attributed to a glacial collapse triggering a mudslide.
Nineteen fires at historic Japanese temples and shrines occurred in the first eight months of 2026 across multiple prefectures, including the destruction of Seianji Temple in Yamaguchi. Authorities have not determined the causes. Mainstream reports indicate that Japan typically records 50–70 shrine and temple fires annually, with 2026 figures remaining within historical averages.
Geopolitics
The Financial Times reported that Russia assisted Iran with “carrier-killing” supersonic cruise missile development under a program designated C430L, citing correspondence, travel records, and patents from 2023 to June 2026. Former CIA analyst Jim Lamson described the system as a significant addition to Iran’s capabilities. That said, some have questioned the extent of assistance given Russia’s own capabilities.
Meanwhile, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir posted an AI-generated video showing Palestinian prisoners on a conveyor belt leading to a concentration camp, which was later removed. The video showed overweight Palestinian men entering a facility and coming out thin, distressed, and crying. He has previously displayed images of an execution facility and was recorded addressing flotilla detainees.

A CIA briefing document released August 29 by Senator Rand Paul stated that former FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb told agency leaders on May 7, 2020, that national COVID seroprevalence was likely 20-25%, indicating the population was progressing towards herd immunity. Public statements by Gottlieb at the time cited lower figures. The document had been withheld for more than six years.
Energy
China’s National Energy Administration reported solar capacity reached 1,286 gigawatts by the end of July, or 31.5% of total installed generation, surpassing coal’s 1,275 GW. Coal’s share of electricity output fell below 50% in the first half of 2026, while renewables accounted for 41.2% and wind plus solar nearly 25%. The agency noted continued coal use for industrial demand and grid stability, a slowdown in renewable additions after policy changes, and higher curtailment rates for solar and wind.
US Politics
The jury in the Lindsay Clancy case remained deadlocked after five days. Clancy has acknowledged strangling her three children in 2023, and the issue before the court is whether postpartum psychosis affected criminal responsibility. Separately, a retired nurse was arrested outside the courthouse on charges related to juror intimidation.

A Utah judge ruled there is probable cause to try Tyler James Robinson for the aggravated murder of Charlie Kirk. Robinson pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors presented DNA evidence, eyewitness accounts, and surveillance video.

A dark-web listing offered 153 million driver’s license scans and other identification records, which researcher Brian Krebs linked to data from IDScan.net. Critics of digital IDs highlight this as an example of why forcing institutions to collect identifying information is dangerous. The FBI opened an investigation on September 1.
