Okay so, full confession, I struggled all week thinking of what to talk about because I am seeking ways to avoid being overly negative.
This is partly due to feedback, and partly due to my own experience of seeking escape and solitude on our farm this week.
But make no mistake, it’s been a grind of late, with the pace of insults and emotional shocks increasing with every passing day. Almost as if by design, but that’s another theory for a different day.
Also, it’s true that something important gelled for me between Charlie Kirk’s murder on September 10th and the weekend of the annual Peak Prosperity Summit.
Where before the murder, I had been actively and almost daily trying to develop the Big Theory Of Everything (The Big TOE) I am suddenly content to make decisions based on the Big Theory Of Enough (also the Big TOE).
According to the Big Theory Of Enough, we have enough information to conclude two things:
- That the most insane among us are never coming back to a shared reality
- That our world views are different enough that there’s no room for a negotiated settlement
Therefore, the conclusion is simple: things are going to carry on until they break.
Now, this may sound apocalyptic, or hyperbolic, but it’s really a statement of the idea that the people I see on the ‘the other side’ of these narratives are operating not just from a different moral plane, but from a different plane of reality.
