The Fat Pipe 09/21/26: Voted In, Capitalism on the Ropes, Oil Supplies Strained, Destroying the West, Economic Pain on the Way, and Life Comes at You Fast

Happy Monday, everyone.  I hope you had a restful weekend.  I sort of did, as yesterday was one of those dreary, rain-all-day Sundays that I love because it gives me license to stay inside and rest and catch up on desk work that has stacked up all week.

But Saturday?  Saturday was election day here in Chester…in fact it was a special election to fill a few vacant positions, one of them being for the selectboard.

I ran before and lost narrowly … but this time was the charm and I won.

Here I am wondering if I actually wanted to catch this bumper:

Just kidding.  I’ll do my best and hope to be able to offer something constructive as my small community gropes its way through what is sure to be a tough winter due to the explosive cost of heating oil.

In a larger sense, my state of MA represents what failed leadership can do, and it’s quite a lot.  None of it is good.

MA ranks third highest for electricity costs, falling behind only Hawaii and California.  We have extremely limited natural gas supplies because our esteemed leadership blocked gas pipelines to “save the climate,” meaning that, instead, my state mainly has to import gas via the Jones Act, competing with Europe for LNG shipments.

Jobs in MA have been dismal and falling for 30 months straight, handily beating the GFC record:

But don’t worry!  Our Governor Maura Healey is busy passing essential legislation to remedy the situation!
