Happy Monday. Wow. Hard to believe Summer is almost over up here in the Northern Hemisphere, and that Winter is winding down in the Southern Hemisphere.
We’re swamped with garden products. If we had pigs, the unused food would feel less wasteful. Pigs are the perfect complement to an oversized garden.
The Iran War Limps Along
Today, Monday August 24th, the U.S. is set to announce what has been billed as the most comprehensive set of punishing sanctions ever devised on Iran.
The details have been less than vague so far. Philip Pilkington (who I am re-interviewing again today…can’t wait) puts it this way:
Bessent just published an article in the FT. It reads like an economic suicide note. I think the US is legit about to blow its brains out by imposing secondary sanctions on China as the USD global system unwinds. 🇺🇸🤪🔫 pic.twitter.com/iPG1KpcYrw

We find out today at 1:00 pm what these “Economic D-Day” sanctions ever really are.

But, whatever they are, their main target, China has already said, “We’re not going to comply.”

So…dead on arrival? Or does the U.S. do something even more monumentally self-sabotaging by going after China?
Iran doesn’t seem too worried:
14 years ago: “Most crippling sanctions in history.” Failed.8 years ago: “Maximum pressure.” Failed.5 months ago: “Unconditional surrender.” Failed.Today: “Most crushing economic operation ever.” Bound to fail.We have seen this movie before. Same bull. Different bullies. pic.twitter.com/CNMSopprV5

As always, I am deeply suspicious of these claims or “Iranian hackers’ because such evidence is very easily spoofed. Instead, this looks to me like the work of somebody who really wants the UK to become more involved with the Iran war. That list of suspects really only has two names on it.
