Energy

PJM Interconnection stated that 67 million Americans across 13 states could face rolling blackouts beginning in June 2027. PJM data and Bloomberg reporting project electricity demand rising more than 30 gigawatts between 2024 and 2030, with 94% of the increase linked to data centers. The 2026/27 capacity auction cleared at prices ten times higher than two years earlier. The 2027/28 auction, finalized in December 2025, did not secure enough commitments to meet reliability standards. Federal regulators set a price cap of $333 per megawatt-day against an estimated free-market price of $530. Analyses have noted that while capacity margins are tightening, current operations show positive margins, and regulatory fixes are underway.

Turning to the Strait of Hormuz disruption, China’s crude imports fell to 7.8 million barrels per day in May, the lowest level since October 2017. Beijing’s price caps have reduced refinery margins and fuel exports. Analysts at ING and JPMorgan noted that strategic inventories above 1 billion barrels are declining and could be depleted by a Q3 demand increase. Analysts have attributed the import decline primarily to drawdowns from strategic stockpiles rather than a collapse in underlying demand.

India, which imports over 85% of its oil, has shifted purchases away from the Middle East following supply disruptions. Oil prices are approximately $30 per barrel above pre-disruption levels. The rupee reached a record low. 360 ONE Capital projected that a further $10 rise in oil could push inflation to 5.6% and reduce GDP growth to 5.9%.

Artificial Intelligence

A Taylor, Texas, family transferred 87 acres to a public trust in 1999 for $10 on the condition that it become a park. The land was later sold to data-center developer Blueprint for $10 million in 2025. A lawsuit filed by descendants was dismissed. Texas currently has more than 300 operating data centers, with 142 under construction.

In other news, a paper from 25 academics at the Initiative for Cryptocurrencies and Contracts stated that autonomous AI agents with access to crypto wallets and APIs could create systemic financial risks. The authors noted that current models can exceed self-replication thresholds in controlled settings. Gartner has forecast that 40% of companies will decommission agentic systems by 2027 due to governance issues. Some observers have described the highlighted risks as narrow rather than an immediate systemic threat.

Meanwhile, GigaAI has placed 100 SeeLight S1 humanoid robots in homes in Wuhan, China, for a domestic trial. Demonstrations showed the robots performing tasks such as preparing breakfast and folding clothes after less than a month of training. Co-founder Zhu Zheng stated that household robotics depends on the robot’s “brain,” unlike acrobatic demonstrations that rely on the “cerebellum.” An upgraded S2 model is planned for later this year. Coverage has described the effort as an early experimental deployment with noted limitations in task speed.

Geopolitics

In an update to fighting, CENTCOM reported strikes on Iranian air-defense sites in Hormozgan province following the downing of a U.S. Army AH-64 helicopter. Both pilots were recovered, and the IRGC Navy claimed responsibility. Meanwhile, Israeli forces struck Tyre, Lebanon, killing at least eight people. Iran has warned of a direct and decisive response to the strikes.

In an update to the peace agreement, $3 billion in frozen Iranian assets were reportedly transferred from Abu Dhabi to Tehran in exchange for a halt in attacks on Israel. Commentator Mario Nawfal described the arrangement as a payment for a ceasefire and noted the sourcing could not be independently verified. As such, the reported transfer remains unverified by independent sources.

Lastly, the United States has circulated a draft IAEA resolution calling on Iran to provide nuclear-material accounting details and facility access. The text does not include a UN Security Council referral. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi urged Tehran to resume cooperation. Iran has accused the agency of sharing data with Israel. Iran has dismissed the draft resolution as politically motivated, while Russia and China have opposed it.

Economy

Gold and silver prices have fallen more than 20% from January 2026 highs. Analyst Matthew Piepenburg stated that the decline may precede major rallies, citing similar patterns in 2020, 2022, 2023, and April 2025. U.S. public debt stands at $39 trillion, with annual interest payments exceeding the 1973 national debt. Central-bank gold purchases have risen fivefold since 2022. According to some reports, the pullback has been linked in part to unwinding geopolitical risk premiums and stronger U.S. economic data.

European Politics

A knife attack and attempted beheading by an immigrant occurred on Kinnaird Avenue in north Belfast, although many mainstream media outlets have described the incident as a stabbing. The victim, Stephen Ogilvie, sustained life-altering injuries after the suspect attempted to saw through his neck. The suspect, Hadi Alodid, a 30-year-old Sudanese national, has been identified. First Minister Michelle O’Neill condemned the attack and attempts to exploit it. Subsequent unrest included fires on Lendrick Street. Officials have urged calm and condemned any exploitation of the incident for broader unrest.

US Politics

A Collin County jury convicted 19-year-old Karmelo Anthony of murdering Austin Metcalf at a Frisco track meet in April 2025 and sentenced him to 35 years. Anthony’s attorney argued that Metcalf lacked legal authority to remove him from the tent. Demonstrators outside the courthouse described the trial as racist.

Videos posted on TikTok show individuals on Skid Row stating they received $2 to $5 to vote for Mayor Karen Bass and Councilwoman Nithya Raman. The footage has been forwarded to the Department of Justice. The claims have not been independently verified, and no connection to the campaigns has been established.
