In this week's Off the Cuff podcast, Chris and Charles discuss:

  • Our Social Contract is Broken
    • Has been re-written to benefit those in power
  • Trust is Eroding
    • Faith in institutions like our justice & money systems is waning
  • New Models are Needed
    • Starting with education

Of all the contrivances for cheating the laboring classes of mankind, none has been more effective than… paper money.

~ Daniel Webster

As citizens, we pay our taxes, abide by common rules, and in other ways cede power and authority to the State. In return, we expect government to work in our best interests providing security, rule of law, national infrastructure, and the like.

But as we enter an era where wealth and opportunity are increasingly becoming concentrated in an ever-tighter cartel of corporations and members of the elite, citizens are beginning to realize they're getting a bum deal. When misguided Fed policy creates mal-investment that enriches the few while sticking the populace with the tab for the inevitable busts; when "too big to fail" becomes "too big to jail"; when owning a house and paying for college means a lifetime of debt-serfdom for the average 2-income family — something is wrong with the social contract.

It's becoming increasingly clear that we need new models if we hope to enter the future with any degree of grace.
