Weekly News Digest (June 10): Canadian Journalists, The Rise of Authoritarianism, 1970s Energy Crisis Again, Russians Beating The Sanctions

WEEK ENDING June 10th, 2022

This week, in 1949, George Orwell’s “1984” was published. (Clear frontrunner as Peak Prosperity’s prize for best non-fiction book.)

These past few days, journalists again demonstrate how prophetic Orwell’s nightmarish story was. The news predicts famine; an energy crisis Jimmy Carter-style but worse; exposes the Russians for evading the energy sanctions; creeping totalitarianism taking root in “democratic” nations; and how we vilified the unvaccinated despite the data and the facts.

Yet, all is well, according to the powers that be…

Make Orwell fiction again!
