EPA Chief Lee Zeldin has halted $20 billion in grants from the Biden administration’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, citing concerns over potential mismanagement. The funds, initially allocated to eight nonprofits, were frozen following reports of rapid distribution before President Trump’s inauguration. Zeldin has called for a review and the return of the funds, which were reportedly parked at an external financial institution. The matter has been referred to the inspector general and the Justice Department for further investigation. Environmental groups like the Sierra Club have criticized the decision, arguing it undermines climate efforts, while conservative think tanks support it as a measure against misuse of taxpayer money.
