Groundwater Depletion, Migration of Terror

The United State’s groundwater resources are looking increasingly unsustainable, migrants (including many on terror watch lists) continue to cross the border even in planes paid for by the government, and India urges other nations to accept rupees for oil.

The United States is currently grappling with a multitude of issues, ranging from groundwater resources to mass migration, national security threats, and economic shifts.

A comprehensive list of publications, reports, and data sources related to groundwater resources and aquifers in the United States has been compiled. These sources cover a wide array of topics, including the sustainability of groundwater resources, irrigation agriculture datasets, specific yield of aquifers, and more. This information is crucial for understanding and managing groundwater resources across different regions of the United States.

Meanwhile, the Darién Gap migrant camps in Panama are teeming with migrants, many of whom are assisted by the United Nations and NGOs, on their perilous journey to the United States. The journey is fraught with danger, including violence, illness, and death. The Biden administration’s policies have been linked to a surge in illegal immigration, aligning with the U.N.’s Global Compact for Migration. Despite the risks, migrants continue to make the dangerous trek, driven by the hope of a better life in the U.S.

In a related development, concerns have been raised about the potential for terrorists to enter the United States freely due to the Biden administration’s border policies. The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Miami Field Office has released information on an Iranian intelligence officer, Majid Dastjani Farahani, who is wanted for questioning in connection with the recruitment of individuals for various operations in the United States. This comes after the US Border Patrol arrested 169 members of the FBI’s terrorist watchlist attempting to cross the southern border illegally in 2023 alone.

In another revelation, a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit has disclosed that the Biden administration has flown at least 320,000 migrants into the United States in an effort to reduce the number of crossings at the southern border. The flights resulted in illegal immigrants being placed in at least 43 American cities from January through December 2023. Under the terms of their release, migrants are able to remain in the US for two years without obtaining legal status, and are meanwhile eligible for work authorization.

On the economic front, India is urging Gulf crude exporters to accept rupees for oil payments to reduce dependence on the US dollar. The Reserve Bank of India wants at least 10% of oil payments in rupees to prevent the weakening of the currency due to high energy demand. This move aligns with efforts by the BRICS group to create a payment system based on blockchain and digital technologies to reduce reliance on the US dollar. As the world’s third-largest crude importer, India is expected to drive global consumption growth in the coming years.
