US Politics

The recent history of attacks against conservatives has garnered attention following the assassination of Charlie Kirk. His assassination follows two reported assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump in 2024—one in Butler, Pennsylvania, and another at a Florida golf club. Other past incidents include the 2017 Congressional Baseball Game shooting and attacks on figures such as Senator Rand Paul and Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Separately, a SoundCloud song titled “Charlie Kirk Dead at 31,” posted by a transgender individual from Utah a month before the shooting, has been noted in connection with the incident, though no official suspect has been named. The FBI has not confirmed any direct link between the song and the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing, with calls for caution against premature conclusions.

In other news, newly released Jeffrey Epstein emails reportedly show extensive gift networks involving victims and associates, with documents suggesting Ghislaine Maxwell’s significant involvement in managing operations, despite her claims of reduced engagement in later years.

Lastly, a California woman faces up to six years in prison for allegedly registering her dog to vote in the 2021 gubernatorial recall election, with reports indicating the vote was counted.

Geopolitics

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated to China’s Admiral Dong Jun that Washington seeks to avoid conflict but will defend Asia-Pacific interests, against a backdrop of strained ties and tariff disputes. Reports also highlight US military supply chain vulnerabilities, particularly dependence on Chinese rare earths, with some experts suggesting this could impact global influence and potentially increase demand for gold as BRICS nations explore alternative trade systems.

Meanwhile, NATO invoked Article 4 at Poland’s request following 19 drone incursions from Belarus into Polish airspace, leading to consultations and temporary closures of airspace, including over Warsaw Chopin Airport. Belarusian officials have denied involvement in the incursions, calling the accusations unfounded and urging a thorough investigation.

In Nepal, a revolution led to the dissolution of parliament within 48 hours, driven by allegations of corruption and government suppression, including a social media ban. Protests turned violent after police reportedly killed over 20 children, with mobs damaging political buildings amid widespread poverty and unemployment. Some reports also note that the social media ban played a significant role in mobilizing youth, though government officials claim the unrest was exploited by political factions for their own gain.

Health

A US Senate hearing addressed vaccine safety concerns, during which attorney Aaron Siri presented a study from Henry Ford Health reportedly showing higher rates of chronic illnesses, such as asthma and neurodevelopmental disorders, among vaccinated children compared to unvaccinated peers. Siri criticized the design of clinical trials and post-licensure monitoring, though Senator Richard Blumenthal challenged his claims. Audience reactions reportedly favored Siri’s arguments. However, medical experts have noted that the study lacks peer review, and its findings are not supported by the broader scientific consensus on vaccine safety.

Economy

The US Treasury announced it will discontinue paper checks for federal payments by September 30, 2025, encouraging recipients to adopt electronic methods like direct deposit to minimize fraud and delays. Concerns have been raised about the impact on elderly and rural populations who may lack access to digital banking, with calls for additional support during the transition.

European Politics

France is experiencing widespread protests over President Emmanuel Macron’s appointment of Sébastien Lecornu as prime minister. Demonstrators, rallying under the slogan “Block everything,” are calling for new elections and Macron’s resignation, citing economic issues and political deadlock. Economic challenges persist with a budget deficit exceeding 6% of GDP and national debt nearing 120%, according to official figures. Reports indicate significant disruptions to transport and education sectors as a result of the unrest. While the protests are significant, some polls suggest a divided public, with certain groups expressing support for Lecornu’s potential to bring stability.
